Michela Gattermayer

Fashion Creative Director at Donna Moderna

Michela Gattermayer is an influential figure in Italian fashion journalism. Born in Milan in 1958, she has spent more than four decades shaping style and cultural storytelling. She treats fashion as a means of personal expression, self-awareness and creative freedom.

Immersed in Milan's creative scene in the 1970s and 1980s, alongside innovators such as Elio Fiorucci, she developed an approach that connects clothing with social commentary. Her professional breakthrough came with Velvet, the fashion and culture monthly published by Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso. As editor-in-chief, she helped establish its reputation for avant-garde imagery and an intellectual approach to style.

She later held senior editorial positions at leading Italian publications, serving as deputy editor of Vanity Fair Italia, Elle Italia and Gioia. More recently, she has worked as Fashion Creative Director at Donna Moderna and as a columnist for iO Donna, Corriere della Sera's weekly magazine, where she writes the Sunday newsletter Il filo conduttore. Her guiding principle is that fashion should serve individual expression rather than conformity.
