Antonia Rizzuto

Antonia Rizzuto is Full Professor of General Surgery at Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro and Director of the General Surgery Unit at Renato Dulbecco University Hospital. She is also Director of the Residency Programme in General Surgery.

She graduated in medicine and surgery summa cum laude, subsequently completing her specialisation in general surgery and a PhD in surgical sciences applied to oncology. Her career includes extensive international clinical and academic experience in Germany, including Heidelberg, Erlangen, Mannheim and Tübingen. She worked in general, visceral and transplant surgery, with senior responsibilities in surgical emergencies and trauma care.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), she holds ACS certifications in Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). She has served as a faculty member and instructor in ACS educational activities, including trauma training in Colombia, and helped introduce the ACS TEAM™ Trauma Evaluation and Management programme in Catanzaro. She also qualified as a general surgeon with the humanitarian organisation EMERGENCY.

International cooperation, particularly in the Mediterranean region, is an important part of her recent work. She has developed ongoing clinical and educational collaborations in Libya, serving as an international faculty member in Tripoli and Misurata and contributing to initiatives in minimally invasive surgery, emergency and trauma surgery, damage-control principles and surgical education.
