Simona Segre-Reinach

Cultural Anthropologist and Alma Mater Professor at the University of Bologna

Simona Segre-Reinach is a cultural anthropologist and Alma Mater Professor at the University of Bologna, where she taught fashion studies. Her work explores fashion as a cultural language through which identities, belonging and encounters between cultures take shape. Her global and transcultural approach informs her research, writing and curatorial practice, as reflected in Fashion in Multiple Chinas (Bloomsbury, 2019).

Exhibitions such as 'Facing Beauties: Italian Fashion and Japanese Fashion at a Glance' (Rimini Museum, 2013) and 'Jungle: The Animal Imaginary in Fashion' (Venaria Reale, 2017) reflect her interest in bringing fashion research into dialogue with wider audiences. In recent years, she has focused on fashion's relationships with animals and nature, explored in her latest book, Animal (Bloomsbury, 2026).

She also studies the cultural heritage of Italian fashion and co-curates the Biki–Jacques Reynaud Archive at the University of Milan. She is the author of Biki. French Visions for Italian Fashion (Rizzoli, 2019) and co-writer of the documentary Biki. La donna che rese divina Maria Callas, directed by Michele Mally. She is currently writing a book on fashion designer Romeo Gigli for Anthem Press.

She was Editor-in-Chief of ZoneModa Journal from 2018 to 2025 and serves on the editorial and advisory boards of leading international fashion studies journals.
